Inverell fields a strong contingent of swimmers for the Gwydir Shire Copeton Freshwater Swim at Copeton Dam on the 26th April on the ANZAC Weekend.Inverell’s Iron Women Lisa Frost, Sisters Tara and Renee Whitbread, Father and siblings duo Brad and Noah Hilton and Brett and Emma McInnis, Rohan Cowley, Tahlia Crisp and Sam Horwood, Lisa Turner, Charlie Horwood, Krista Harris and Madison Rogers will all chase the $3,900 in prize money on offer at the Swim with Altitude event. Some of the swimmers are first timers and others like young Tahlia Crisp and Sam Horwood are taking on the gruelling Sapphire City 5km event. Publicity Officer Gary Lamrock said "a strong contingent from Inverell contested the event last year and we are hoping for similar numbers this year. Those who enter the McDonalds 600m Swim will have the privilege of swimming with Australian Iron Man and Olympian Ky Hurst.

Julian Aenishaenslin frJulian Aenishaenslinom Ballina and Madeline NilonMadeline Nilon from Caniaba were both winners of the first ever Gwydir Shire Copeton Freshwater Swim and will be returning for the 2014 event. Sixteen year old Aenishaenslin was impressive in last year's maiden event taking out the 600m and the 2km swim as was Nilon who was only Fourteen years old at the time Madeline also claimed both the 600m and 2km titles. This year's course differs from last year by being in a more open area of Copeton dam and should provide some interesting racing. Over 50 entries have been received as this goes to type and the new Sapphire City 5km is creating some interest with the long distance open water swimmers with a number of entries received for the event.
